FALL IS ARRIVING FAST. HOW TO CONTROL AND MANAGE RODENT INFESTATION.

Summer has been a period rich in activity. You have taken advantage of this time to travel and do outdoor activities. With the arrival of fall, temperatures have started to lower. Done are the outdoor activities. You spend more time indoors in the search of comfort and warmth.

And yes, it’s sensibly the same thing for rodents! Fall is often the season where they infiltrate into houses to find food, water and heat.

SEE HOW YOU CAN DEFEND YOURSELF AGAINST RODENT INFESTATION AS FALL APPROACHES.

Keep rodents outside your home.

There are two ways to fight against the infestation of rodents. The first technique consists not only of making your property less attractive in their eyes but also stopping them from entering!

PICK UP YOUR DEAD LEAVES

Leaves start falling and to not bother your neighbors, you pick them up and leave them in a heap in front of the garage door. With time, the dead leaves rot and become a nest for rodents. Pick up your heaps of leaves or throw them immediately into the compost before they attract rodents.

MOVE YOUR GARBAGE BINS FAR FROM THE HOUSE

It isn’t just a simple plastic bag that will stop rodents such as squirrels to get into your trash to feed. The same thing applies to your brown compost bin. Rodents will not hesitate to chew the plastic and even metal in order to feed. If pests approach your house to feed, there’re strong chances that they will try to infiltrate themselves in the quest for food.

Caulk each hole and crack giving access to inside. You can make your home impenetrable. Mice and rats can easily sneak in through miniscule holes and cracks. Verify the opening where your pipes and wiring come through. All holes should be sealed by cement, steel wool or a tight weaved iron grill.

HUNT RODENTS FROM YOUR HOME

If the first technique did not work and rodents have found their way into your home, it’s time to turn towards the second technique: to exterminate them or force them to leave your house.

EFFECTIVE MOUSE TRAPS

Many believe that cheese is mice’s favorite food, but this is false. Despite this myth which is portrayed in movies and television shows, rodents are more attracted to cereals and sweet products. Replace cheese by peanut butter as bait in your traps and they will jump on it.

HIDE YOUR FOOD

If rodents can’t find anything to eat in your home, they could leave on their own. In your pantry, ensure that food is stored in sealed containers made from plastic or glass. Do not leave food out in the open. To this effect, even your pile of dirty dishes can represent a buffet for rodents.

Even though our suggestions are applied carefully, there’s a possibility that rodents will find a way into your home this autumn. Once inside, they can immediately start reproducing and cause damages.
